Khedi Ghat
Tourists visit this place before visiting Omkareshwar Temple.

Omkar Mandhata
This cave like temple which as one of the 12 jyotirlings of Lord Shiva. It is regarded to be a very holy place by Hindus.

Omkareshwar is a pilgrimage place with lots of temples, Gaudi Somnath temple traces back to the 11th century and is approached by a flight of 280 steps. The height gives you the view of the merging Narmada and Kaveri river. A huge Shiva statue stands beside the temple which has to be trekked down. The Siddhantha temple has beautiful carvings to watch.

In Maheshwar, The fort of Maheshwar dating back to the 16th century is a impressive structure, built by Emperor Akbar, the Maheshwar palace also has lots of historic temples in its courtyard. A part of the palace is converted into a hotel. An NGO runs a handicrafts workshop here. The Baneshwar temple has to be approached by boat as it is in a small island.



Omkareshwar temple
Omkareshwar  is one of the 12 revered Jyotirlinga shrines of Shiva.
There are two temples here, one to Omkareshwar (whose name means "OM-maker-lord") and one to Amareshwar (whose name means "immortal lord" or "lord of the immortals").

The scenic beauty of Maheshwar and river Narmada are captured in some Bollywood and Tamil movies. Some of the movies shot in Maheshwar include the movie "Ashoka" , and Tamil movie Alaipayuthey's song "Sneithanea..." etc.

Dedicated to Lord Shiva, Omkareshwar is situated at a distance of 77 km from Indore. It is a pilgrimage site as it consists of a number of Hindu temples and Jain temples. Geographically, it is an island, formed in the shape of Om, on the confluence of the rivers Narmada and Kaveri. This site has potential of attracting religious tourist from all over the world. The temple of Navagraha, the nine planets, on the Triveni Ghat of Shipra is a prominent centre for the pilgrims. There is a confluence of Khan River near Triveni Ghat on the Shipra.

On the other side, the Indira Sagar Dam is a multipurpose key project on the Narmada River at Narmadanagar in the Khandwa district. The project envisages construction of a 92 m high and 653 m long concrete gravity dam. It has the potential for adventure water sports.
